External HDD Enclosures

I need an external HDD enclosure so that I can [fill in obvious use cases here]. I have a couple of 3.5" drives that I'm not using, so that eliminates a 2.5" enclosure that can power off USB which is a bit of a shame.

Anyhow, I was looking at these:

I haven't heard anything about any of these companies, though. So that makes it a bit difficult to decide which one to get.

Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone have a HDD enclosure they prefer over these?

I have a Bytecc ME-740U2F which holds just 3.5" IDE drives.  It does both Firewire and USB 2.0, so it's very flexible (especially if you have older Macs without USB 2.0).  And, it's pretty sleek and actually made of aluminum, unlike another case I purchased which was just painted silver.  The case has worked well for me with the Firewire interface in Linux.

Here's the URL (since I can't tell if this site supports HTML in the comments):

My brother just picked up a Sabrent case.  It did not work.  We replaced it with an ADS case picked up at Compusa today.  $59.99 after rebates for external case and 160gig Hitachi drive.  Too good of deal to pass up.

I ended up buying a $29.99 3.5" USB 2.0 enclosure at CompUSA.  They say it's aluminum, but there are plastic inserts between the drive and the aluminum exterior, so it's a little goofy if you ask me.  The plastic components of the case are pretty flimsy.  On the flip side, it took 5 minutes to open up, toss the drive in, close up, and then connect to my laptop.  No screws, no hurt fingers, no percussive maintenance to motivate it to close, ...

It seems to get hot if I leave it on for a while.  My plan is to use it to mirror my laptop data, so I won't be using it for long spurts.

Good enough for now.
