Total Annihilation

My co-worker was telling me about TA games he plays with his family and mentioned all these units I'd never heard of. I have TA and TA: Core Contingency, but that's it.

Anyone still play Total Annihilation? Are there other unit packs or other things that are interesting and worth looking into?

Depends on how you define "play".  I haven't actively played in about three years, but I still consider TA to be the best RTS ever.
There's three major unit packs that might be of interest.  The Uberhack ( http://www.planetannihilation.com/bsr/ ), Absolute Annihilation ( http://www.planetannihilation.com/aa/ ), and the TADD Super Pack ( http://www.planetdungeonsiege.com/mercilesscreations/sections/ta/units/ ).  Also, don't forget the TA Map Evaluation Center ( http://www.planetannihilation.com/tamec/tamain.asp ).

There's two other items of interest.  A group of fans has put together a 3D engine / game called Spring ( http://taspring.clan-sy.com/ ) that recreates TA's gameplay in full 3D, and the "spiritual successor" to TA, Supreme Commander, has just been announced, with an article online at  http://etoychest.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1073.

Absolute Annihilation is amazing!

However, every single skirmish I've played so far has led to me being utterly and totally vanquished.  Way cool!  :)

Note 2: There is now a preview button for those of you who want to see a preview! However, it doesn't quite work the way you'd think it should work. I'll look into adjusting it some day.
